What this policy covers
This policy explains what information Digital Safety Signal collects when you visit this website, why we collect it, and what choices you have. It applies to this site only — not to any site we link to.
Information we collect
You do not need an account to read Digital Safety Signal, and we do not ask you to create one. We do not collect names, addresses, or payment details.
Like virtually every website, our servers automatically record standard technical information when a page is requested: your IP address, browser type and version, the page you requested, the page that referred you, and the date and time. This is used to operate the site, diagnose faults, and detect abuse.
If you email us, we keep that correspondence so we can reply to it and — where the message reports an error — act on it under our corrections policy.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics to understand which articles are read and how people arrive at them, so we can decide what to write next. It sets cookies and reports aggregated usage back to us. We do not use it to identify individual readers, and we do not combine it with any other data to do so.
Links to other sites
Our articles cite and link to outside sources. Once you follow a link away from Digital Safety Signal, this policy no longer applies, and we have no control over what that site collects. We would encourage you to read the privacy policy of any site you visit.
Your rights in the European Economic Area and the UK
If you are in the EEA or the UK, the GDPR gives you the right to request access to the personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or erased, to object to or restrict how we process it, and to receive a copy of it. You also have the right to complain to your national data protection authority.
Our legal basis for processing the technical data described above is our legitimate interest in operating a secure, working website. Where cookies require your consent, we ask for it before those cookies are set, and you can withdraw that consent at any time.
Your rights in California
If you are a California resident, the CCPA gives you the right to know what personal information is collected about you, to request its deletion, and to opt out of its sale. We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it in exchange for anything of value.
Children's privacy
This site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle data, we will update this page and revise the effective date above. Material changes will be described here rather than made quietly.
